Winter Wedding at Byron's South End

While I may not be crazy about the cold, I LOVE Winter weddings.  Something about the crisp air and overcast sky is unexpectedly romantic.

Gracie and Brandon's January wedding day was one of a kind.  Bear and Biggie (scroll down to see their cute mugs) stole the show as ring bearers and Brandon's Grandmother was the honorary "flower lady" (quite possibly the most endearing way I've seen a grandparent included in the ceremony).  These two are a Crossfit king and queen who's guilty pleasure happens to be dessert;  guests were treated to a wide variety of sweet treats - cheesecake, trifles, cookies, donut holes, cupcakes...I could go on :)

Approaching their first anniversary and congratulations are in order, later this year Gracie and Brandon will have a little cupcake of their own!  See what I did there ;)

Caroline & Daniel's Uptown Charlotte Wedding

Daniel and Caroline's wedding was our last one of 2017 and what a way to wrap up not only the Fall season, but the year!  I must say that Caroline made one of the most timelessly stunning brides I have had the pleasure of working with.

I love the way Daniel looks at Caroline.  His affection is apparent, but you can see the love and admiration in his eyes.  These two are truly a team, no planning decision was made without looping the other person in or discussing with one another.  They were married at First United Presbyterian Church and had an interfaith ceremony, including both Christian and Jewish traditions and officiants.  Following the ceremony they danced the night away with the band Hardwork Movement (who happen to be close friends of Daniel's) at Foundation For The Carolinas.  The day was beautiful and one of my favorites of the entire year.

Cheyenne's photography speaks for itself, but my goodness is she talented.  I may have gone a little overboard on the number of photos included in this post, but there was just no way to leave any of these beauties out :) Caroline and Daniel were captured in such a genuine way, their joy is palpable.  And how cute is their pup, Olive?!

Such lovely people and wonderful families, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know them all.

Bridal Session at Wing Haven Gardens

Gone are the days when a bridal session meant wearing your gown only to sit in front of a backdrop and end up with a gallery of, dare I say, awkwardly posed photos.  I adore bridal sessions.  If I have said it once, I have said it one hundred times, the opportunity to wear your gown, shoes, accessories, have your hair and makeup done, and get a preview of your bouquet prior to wedding day is indispensable.  Which brings me to Alice.

Alice's style is a perfect mix of both timeless and artistic.  Her gown will always be on trend, ironically because instead of being trendy it is classic, and her florals were intentional - intentional enough that they look like a work of art themselves.  Her look is a perfect representation of who she is and there is something so special about getting to soak it all in before the excitement of wedding day.  A bit obsessed with everything about the images below.  Amazing bride, incredible photography, and gorgeous florals.  Be still my heart.

Not pictured below, the fierce pantsuit Alice wore for the Grand Exit on wedding day...stay tuned.

Engaged | Caroline & Daniel

Fall '17 wedding season has been one for the books and we wrap it all up this weekend with Caroline and Daniel.  I love Caroline's style; when we initially spoke she told me her vision was "romantic, but with a modern feel" - do you know how well the two words romantic and modern compliment one another?  Beautifully.  Saturday is going to be gorgeous, from Caroline's incredible gown, to the florals, to the place settings, nothing has been skimmed over or overlooked.  Caroline and Daniel currently reside in Philadelphia and adding another personal touch, are bringing down a favorite band, Hardwork Movement to play for the reception.  Let the party ensue!

Rounding out the attention to and personal details put into their wedding, these two also have a stellar team of creatives.  Cheyenne, Lynette, Lauren (ha, I kid), Foundation for the's going to be an incredible day.  Scroll down for a peek at their engagement session.

Engaged | Kristin & Alex

Wedding season is cruising right along and we have some amazing weddings coming up in the next few weeks.  Kristin and Alex are getting married Friday at Sugar Creek Brewing and one thing is for sure, their wedding will be a huge celebration.

Fun fact (that I love), they were best friends for years and years, even lived together before ever sharing their feelings with one another.  It's the type of story romantic comedies are made of.  One day Kristin finally told Alex that "we love each other" (haha, she left nothing up for debate) and the rest is history.

I have been blessed this season with amazing clients.  Literally each Southern Savvy couple is incredible and I am so grateful to get to work with all of them.  Kristin is my spirit animal (I mean do you see the top knot she rocks at the end of the this e session?) and I love seeing her and Alex's personalities come through in these photos.

The Perfect Carolina Fall Wedding Day at Quail Hollow Club

Ok, as it turns out keeping up with blogging is not my strong suit.  You guys, I have been holding onto this gallery for months and months and months just waiting for a chance to properly share via the blog (because sure one or two photos on instagram is fun, but this wedding deserves cohesion that can only be found by sharing everything together).

Katherine and Bill were married last Fall on a perfect Carolina day, capped off by clear blue skies and crisp air once the sun set.  Their wedding is easily one of the most fun I've had the pleasure of planning and designing yet - beer flight and slider pairings during cocktail hour, lawn games, an interactive donut bar, and a few "He's Not Here" Blue Cups even made an appearance (Tarheels, you know what I'm talking about).  Details aside, there is nothing better than working with a couple who you naturally "jive" with - Katherine and Bill are so much fun and such a fantastic couple I am so thankful for the opportunity to have gotten to know and worked alongside them.

Scroll down and take a look back and at their amazing wedding - fair warning, there are A LOT of images below, Crystal Stokes did such an amazing job capturing the emotion and joy felt throughout the day I couldn't imagine leaving out any of the images below.

Engaged | Alice & Brian

Does anyone else feel like 2017 is flying by?!  It seems like just yesterday Alice and I were in the very beginning stages of planning, chatting about the color scheme and bridesmaid dresses, yet here we are - it's wedding week!

On Saturday Alice and Brian will be saying "I Do" at the church she grew up in, Myers Park Baptist and then continuing the celebration at Quail Hollow Club.  Their creative team is incredible and the garden-style decor is going to be a stunner!

In celebration of wedding week, I just had to share a few of my favorites from their engagement session with Alicia White.  And of course, the cameo appearance of Alice's rescue pup, Rose, was not to be left out :)

Cinco De Mayo Anniversary Session

Happy Cinco De Mayo!  Today's post is a little different than our usual posts full of weddings, engagements, and bridal beauties.  A few weeks ago, Southern Savvy partnered with a few of Charlotte's most talented wedding creatives to showcase a styled backyard anniversary session, inspired by Cinco De Mayo - you just can't go wrong with margs and guac.  Do you know what I love about stepping outside of our wedding planning box?  Highlighting what comes next.  Y'all the wedding is going to be one of the highest points in your life, but don't forget about the real adventure - building a life together.  Make sure to follow the gallery below to the very bottom to check out where Brandi and CG's adventure has taken them so far!

What are your plans for Cinco De Mayo?  Unsure if you want to wait in line at your favorite Mexican restaurant?  We've got ya covered!  See below for our Cucumber Rosemary Margarita and Roots' Farm Food Guacamole recipes!  My stomach is already growling :)

Southern Soirée at The Duke Mansion

Brittney and Derek had the most amazing Spring wedding last April.  In full bloom, The Duke Mansion was it's usual stunning self (if I could spend every day there I would) and looking back on their wedding day I remember nothing but constant smiles, joy, and one heck of a celebration.  Also, their first look - one for the books.  So many happy tears (including myself and their photographer, Lauren Friday).

Each year there are a few couples I establish an especially close connection and friendship with, Brittney and Derek were one of those couples in 2016.  Because of this I think I've been subconsciously holding onto their wedding day photos waiting for the perfect time to share - in celebration of their first anniversary this weekend, it seems to finally be that time!  These two are made for one another and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know and work with them during such a special time in their lives.

PS - congratulations are in order, the newest Tar Heel will be arriving October 2017!

Duke Mansion Bridal Session

I have been holding on to Katherine's bridals for far too long!

Katherine is a gorgeous bride and The Duke Mansion was the perfect backdrop for her bridal portraits with Crystal Stokes.  Katherine & Bill's wedding at Quail Hollow Club was easily one of 2016's highlights - stay tuned for more to come featuring this wedding, but for now I'll leave you with her stunning bridal session.  Seriously, these photos are so amazing I could revisit this album every day and find a new favorite.  Enjoy!

Engaged: Gracie & Brandon

Have I mentioned that I love Winter weddings?  Gracie and Brandon's wedding day is quickly approaching and I for one can't wait.  They have done such an incredible job making their wedding one of a kind and personal to them it's going to be a pleasure watching the day unfold.  Brandon's Grandmother, Net, will be serving as their Flower Lady (have you ever heard of a more thoughtful idea?) and the two gentlemen in bowties below will be making an appearance as the ring bearers.  Oh, and these two LOVE dessert, lets just say their guests are in for a treat!

Thank you, Sunshower Photography for sharing their engagement session with us!  This time next week we'll be gearing up for their wedding weekend taking place at Byron's South End and I'm thrilled to be kicking off our 2017 season with this wedding!

Timeless Winter Wedding Inspiration

I woke up this morning to my weather app telling me Charlotte is now expected to receive 4-8" of snow tonight and tomorrow afternoon...what the what?  Good news, I love snow and will prompty turn into a little kid glued to the window as soon as the first few flakes fall.  Bad news, we're almost out of Winter/Christmas beer and how is one to have a snow party without it?  Total Wine, I will be seeing you's hoping it's not quite as crazy as Harris Teeter was last night!

The Timeless Winter Wedding shoot I designed last month is perfect for a snowy day - soft, cool hues, a fur stole and blankets to keep you cozy, a touch of velvet, and hot toddies.  My goal for this shoot was to put a soft spin on winter wedding design and to say I'm pleased with how it all came together (in less than two weeks no less!) would be a huge understatement!

Fall and Spring in the Carolinas are incredibly beautiful - it can be tough to beat Carolina blue skies on your wedding day, but don't write off a Winter wedding just yet.  Overcast skies, cooler temps, and an earlier sunset create the ultimate romantic backdrop.  For anyone still on the fence about Winter weddings, I'm hopeful this shoot will make a fan out of you as well.

Enjoy the snow this weekend!

Thank You For Being A Friend

Dreaming up and designing this Golden Girls Bridal Luncheon inspiration shoot was such a treat - admittedly, I may have binge watched a few episodes as part of my "creative process"!  After creating my mood board (check it out here), what was the next step?  Bringing an all star creative team on board.  Growing up my Grandma and I were always sure to catch "the girls" when I spent the night with her, so this witty and fun show carries a bit of nostalgia for me - and what fun it was to hear similar stories from the gals on our creative team.  In addition to working with amazing creatives, I also had pleasure of seeing some of our previous SSE brides who graciously agreed to model for us.  I'm so thankful for the relationships I have built with so many brides and love that I can now call them friends.

Working with this creative team was a delight and I was so pleased to see our work featured on Wedding Chicks!

What a great way to kick off the weekend, Wedding Chicks has featured our Golden Girls inspired Bridal Luncheon today!  This shoot was near and dear to my heart and I am so happy to finally share it here

Inspiration: Thank You For Being A Friend

Like many others who grew up in the 80's & 90's certain things always take me back to my youth - Saved by the Bell, Pac Man, any Michael Jackson song, "The Rachel" haircut, ET, New Kids on the Block, Clueless, terrible 4 inch high chunky sandals (ladies in their early-mid thirties, you know what I'm talking about)...I could go on and on.  Admittedly, both MJ and NKOTB have a station on my current Pandora.  Some things are timeless after all.

Another of my all time favorite things that came from the 80's & 90's?  The Golden Girls.  As a young girl whenever I would spend the night with my Grandma I always remember we would watch an episode of the Golden Girls just before bed - how the same show could appeal to a retiree and a young girl is beyond me, but it did and I loved it.  When the idea struck to design an inspiration shoot based on the Golden Girls I was in heaven brainstorming details.

Tomorrow, Wedding Chicks will be featuring the shoot, beautifully shot by Cathy Durig Photography, don't miss it!

Urban Ethereal Wedding Inspiration

Every profession calls for occasional Continuing Education, new certifications, shadowing, etc. to sharpen your skill set and stay up to date in your market.  For those of us in the wedding industry the same can be said for Inspiration Shoots.  These shoots give us the opportunity to flex our creative muscles and create a design based entirely on personal inspiration.

When Lauren Friday and I began discussing this shoot our vision was clear - the design would have an Urban/Edgy feel, while keeping timeless details.  Once the venue (The Goodyear Building) was decided, cultivating the details was seamless.  If you aren't familiar with The Goodyear Building, it was a longstanding auto-repair shop in the heart of downtown Charlotte.  In the wake of Charlotte's growth Goodyear was sold and remained vacant for months, until becoming a residency for local artists (thanks to VTG CLT).

Fun Fact - just a few short months following the shoot our models got engaged.  Can you believe this is only their practice round in a gown and suit?

Want to see more?  Click here to see the Mood Board for this inspiration shoot and click here to check out it's feature on Fab You Bliss!  This creative team was the absolute best, I look forward to working with each of you in 2017!

Inspiration: Urban Ethereal Wedding

When I began working on the design for a recent inspiration shoot, "Edgy Twist On A Timeless Wedding Style", featured yesterday on Fab You Bliss finding my vision didn't take long.  Producing a timeless design with an edgy twist served as my inspiration for this shoot.  While brainstorming for the decor/design it was clear that maintaining an Ethereal air of softness, highlighting timeless details, while also incorporating elements that would offer depth in an Urban/Edgy way would be a gorgeous marriage of two very different styles.

When you are in the design and decor stage of planning, Mood Boards serve as a HUGE help for your creative team.  While Pinterest Boards offer a good representation of your overall vision, my goal for your Mood Board is to cultivate details so specific to you and your fiancé that each element of your wedding is a direct representation of you two.  I focus on honing in to your specific style and highlighting details that are most true to you, whether it be through your pinterest boards, instagram posts, taste in food and music, personal style, favorite travel destinations - you name it, inspiration is everywhere.  Once we have a simplified, specific plan for your design it allows your creative team to elevate your details and decor, making your wedding truly one of a kind and personal to you and your fiancé.

On Monday I will be sharing our Urban Ethereal Shoot, so check out the Mood Board I created for it below.  The creative team did such a wonderful job of taking my vision and ideas and bringing them to life - I can't wait to share all of the details!
